Why do you need IPL™ (Photofacial) Treatments with a Certified Laser Technician?

What if we tell you that there’s a technology that will diminish these concerns without surgery? The procedure is called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) Photofacial. It’s an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment that transforms uneven skin tone into a beautifully smooth, radiant complexion. IPL specifically targets a few main concerns. Check out the list of skin conditions below. Which ones do you suffer from?

  • Rosacea
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Enlarged pores
  • Freckles
  • Dull skin
  • Loss of collagen

How does it work? Let us explain.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) Photofacial treatment takes about 30-45 minutes. The procedure involves pulses of light to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin. As a result, the broken capillaries below the upper epidermis shrink, tightening and smoothing out the surface, minimizing redness and blotchiness. The light is also attracted to sunspots bringing them to the surface where they fake off. The treatment is meant as a colour corrector. It tightens and brightens the skin. An added bonus is that is also produces an increase in collagen and elastin.

Results from each treatment start to show in around 1-2 weeks, though it takes about 3 to 5 sessions on average to see a significant difference as more and more spots fade away with each treatment.

IPL™ treatment is non-invasive like many other advanced skin rejuvenation treatments these days, hence pain is minimal. There could be some discomfort and redness right after the treatment but that disappears shortly after. The downtime is quite minimal.

Who Can Benefit from the IPL™ Treatment?

The light-based IPL™ Photofacial treatment is not suitable for every skin tone, unfortunately.

  • Tanned or dark toned skin posses a risk and is not suitable for IPL™, because the light is specifically drawn to melanin.
There are however other treatment options we offer here at Dermal Laser and we are more than happy to discuss these at the time of consultation.
  • Some medications are contraindicative with the treatment. Those who are taking Accutane® should not get the treatment done until at least six months after they stop taking the drug.
  • Pregnant women should avoid the treatment until after they have given birth.
  • With Photofacial, you can treat the face, neck, décolleté and hands.
